Short thread: This line of reasoning from Liberal partisans is insulting for a few reasons.
First, what's been alleged about Payette by multiple people isn't toughness or assertiveness, but abusiveness.
Yes, there is a difference, and yes, it is clear. #cdnpoli

Second, the attempt to deflect criticism from Payette (and by extension, from Trudeau) by suggesting Payette is being unfairly singled out, as opposed to being properly scrutinized, undercuts efforts to get people to recognize and take workplace abuse seriously.
No, it's not okay. And those subjected to Payette's mistreatment aren't any less negatively affected because the mistreatment happened to come from a woman, rather than a man.
Payette wasn't some nobody govt worker, she was a high-ranking political appointee. Governor General.

Third, the downplaying of the situation is a clear example of people protecting their own when harassment, intimidation, or other forms of mistreatment come to light, rather than protecting the victims and seeking to prevent further and future harm.
This is another case of a powerful figure in a position of authority who was elevated w/o scrutiny, then later defended w/o second thought.
Protecters and enablers are everywhere, and they can be found on all sides of the political and social spectrum.

The mistreatment is the problem here, not those bringing it to light nor those refusing to consider it in any way acceptable.
This shouldn't be a partisan thing.
