Historically we are actually in a low tax environment. The average person feels taxes will be higher not lower. If you look at the rampant government spending the reality is that money can only come from taxes because the government doesn’t produce anything.
Now with Boe Jiden stepping in; it’s inevitable that taxes will be increasing.
So when we look at 401Ks as an example; your taxes are deferred to be paid upon withdrawal one day when you arrive at the qualifying age.

This is why I’m such a big fan of post tax. Get the thing you know and are certain of out of the way now and let everybody else worry about the IRS calling one day for that debt you owe them.

Isn’t the match just going to cover the taxes one day? Remember it’s not free money. You still owe taxes.

I work with people every day who know deep down that the 401k is not a blessing but more of a necessary evil. They are relieved to learn that alternatives do exist that give them more certainty and control for the future all while enjoying the benefits of tax free growth.
