What's alt for?

Lots of people on social media are blind, visually impaired, or have image processing disorders.
Many utilize screen readers to read aloud tweets. But if it comes across an image without alt text, it just says "image" out loud. So that's all they get.
A lot of tweets sound like "Oh my God have you guys seen this? Image." And then lots of people in the replies going "holy shit!" And "😂😂😂" with no context as to what is going on.

Especially viral tweets.
Almost none of them have alt.
Which honestly sucks because according to the world health organization, over 2.2 billion people have visual impediments, 285 million of those are considered significantly visually impaired, and 39 million of those are completely blind.
As great as technology is, a screen reader cannot yet describe an image.

One of the ways you can help is by writing up a description of what you post.
Is it all text? Lift it with an OCR like Google Lens and clean it up a bit. Or use a web based OCR. They're free to use and easy
