I don’t know whether this is a hill worth dying on or not and I’m not trying to upset or exclude anyone. But just... please let nonbinary people have labels that mean things.

Not every label has to be all-inclusive. We’re allowed to define ourselves.
I think the nonbinary community is beautiful and powerful and amazing. And I love that “nonbinary” can mean thousands and thousands of different things.

But it’s also okay if we have some words under that umbrella that just mean something specific.
There’s a sort of overarching attitude in the nonbinary community of like... gender anarchy! nothing means anything!

And that’s fine if that fits you! But it doesn’t fit me. I’m not agender, I’m not fluid. I just want to be able to describe me.
This “we don’t have to fit into a box! Dismantle them!” attitude is great for some. But some of us do want the comfort of a box, and the ability to find other people who are the same or similar to us, to talk about shared experiences and I think... we deserve that too?
Being inclusive is so important. But it’s also important to be able to describe ourselves.

Language does change. But it’s also how we explain ourselves to others. If every label means “whatever the person using it wants it to mean!” then... it doesn’t really allow us to do that?
I don’t know what the solution is because I don’t want to gatekeep or control what labels someone can use or force people into specific labels but sometimes I wish there was more understanding for those of who do want a box. We’re part of the community too.
