This complete tear down is the correct thing to do given the situation GMBC is in.
That situation: a dreadful roster he inherited (NH) and massive financial constraints (Nutting)
It’s far from a guarantee to work out but is the best play to try and win eventually

It absolutely sucks and is not fair and is just a bad place to be in general. No doubt about that.
The only positive is the no-mans-land (no real direction) days of the last few years are over. Those were wasted years and the price for that still needs to be paid.

Also, I’ve made this point before but we should continue to push it -rebuild is not a valid excuse to skimp (at least to this extreme degree) on payroll. You can sign FA’s with the intent of flipping at deadline. You can take on bad contracts in trades to acquire better prospects
Pandemic isn’t a valid excuse either, at least not when comparing to all the other MLB teams. It hurt the Pirates less than anyone else. They lost out on less ticket revenue than nearly anyone else, and spent the least on payroll
