So I'm going to start a thread on Indigenous Music. Our culture is full of music, dance and story telling. Some of our musicians are now household names, others will always be the backbone of our music industry. #IndigenousX
Coloured Stone. From SA started in the late 70's and still going strong. Their songs defined their generation and struggles. #IndigenousX
Kev Carmody - the man is the Indigenous Bob Dylan. His music just speaks to your soul. #IndigenousX
Jimmy Little - Yorta Yorta Man. Apart from his Royal Telephone, he sang about this Yorta Yorta country. #IndigenousX
No Fixed Address - another South Australian band. Incorporating the reggae sounds of the Caribbean but putting a blackfulla spin to it. #IndigenousX
West Australia's Fitzroy Xpress - I remember watching these guys when I was a kid. They are legendary. #IndigenousX
Red Ochre Band - Yamaji Band. Up from Geraldton - I heard them once at the Kyana Festival here in Perth and then again in Sydney, loved them! #IndigenousX
Still on WA bands - The Pigram Brothers from up North (Broome) their music is so adaptable, yet, speaks to your soul. #IndigenousX
then there was Us Mob. They are from SA too..I couldn't find any of their other songs, but this one.. #IndigenousX
Sound another one of Us Mob - it's called Genocide
Mixed Relations - another SA band - which has its beginnings from Coloured Stone.
Can't do an Indigenous music thread without adding Tiddas. Amazing harmonic voices who sang about deaths in custody and changing the anthem, amongst other issues. #IndigenousX #Changethedate #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe
This one is for all the Murris! Mop and the Dropouts - classic Brisbane Blackfulla band.. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
Another Blsvkfulla legend. Roger Knox. My Aunt loved him, and he is known as Black Elvis. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe
#IndigenousX #ChangetheDate
A. B. Original. Briggs, Trials and Dan Sultan. Best song - January 26

Sorry for the break in transmission - had to take my step dad and cousin out for lunch. But we're back...more Indigenous music..
So if we are to look further north to our Torres Strait Islander Brothers and Sisters, we see tons of talent up there. The Mills Sisters are very famous for their songs from the Torres Strait - this was the only song I could find on YouTube
Then there is Seaman Dan - who has recently left us. He has a more "Island" type music style. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe
Christine Anu - sang about her deadly red shoes, put words to Cathy Freman's theme "Cos I'm free" and put her own spin on Warumpi Band's "My Island Home" #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
Busby Marou have Torres Strait Islander roots, with Jeremy Marou being a Torres Strait Islander. I just love listening to the smoothness of their music. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
Thelma Plum - I'm a new listener to her. I was staying in a backpackers in Sydney and one of the other backpackers was listening to her, I googled her and fell in love. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
A.B. Original with Thelma Plum. I'm just gonna add this one because it rocks.
"..All the Murri's, All the Kooris, All the Gooris - Can you hear me?" Local Knowledge! Saw these guys at Survival at Redfern Park one year. Place was rocking! #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
Remember these deadly sistas!! #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
The Last Kinection - Black & Deadly. Yes they were - and I'm sure if they came back, their next single would be "Still Black & Deadly" (I want credit for that title too 😊) #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe
This is another one from Street Warriors - these guys were part of Local Knowledge. I love the collaboration with Shannon Noll and Albert David dancing - using the music from Goanna - just made it more deadly!
I forgot to add, that there are some people who are deceased in these videos. I posted these in respect to them and their music - because they left behind a very powerful message and legacy.
Chris Phillips - My People My People.
#AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
I first heard these women when they were at Eora TAFE in Sydney and were a trio. Now they are a duo and for the past 25 years I have watched them grow and just become more awesome. They remind me of Tiddas.

Stiff Gins
In 1988 - Kev Carmody released his song "Thou Shalt Not Steal" (which is in the thread somewhere), Yothu Yindi also released their song "Treaty" - (note: we're still waiting for a Treaty)
This is an updated tribute version of Treaty - this collaboration was by many current, emerging Indigenous artists.
Baker Boy. Nothing else needs to be said.
#AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
A cover of Kev Carmody's "From Little Things, Big Things Grow" from Electric Fields. Indigenous protest music always remains relevant. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
There are a ton more artists and I'm going to add some of them later. Miss Bindi wants me to go outside with her...
Country Music icon and legend - Troy Cassar-Daley - Country music is the backbone of most Aboriginal families. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
another legend in the Indigenous music scene - Frank Yamma - his music, like Kev Carmody - just speaks to your soul. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
A list like this wouldn't be complete without having Dr Gurrumul as part of it's line up. His talent was amazing. I chose this song as it was a duet with Paul Kelly (the singer) #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
Briggs - He's been part of the Australian hiphop scene for ages, and just continues to be a powerful voice for Indigenous Australians. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
I saw Dan Sultan in Jimmy Chi's Bran Nue Dae - way back when. Kinda followed his career over the time, but this one song, well, when I hear it - I know I need to head back to the Kimberley. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
Back in the day, Harold Blair and Jimmy Little were very popular musicians - both had different audiences, but, they were pioneers in the Indigenous Music scene. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
Deborah Cheetham, is an amazing opera singer. I've heard her a couple of times, live and she is amazing. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
I know I've mentioned this band earlier in the thread. But, this song is one of their most popular song. Warumpi Band pretty much helped bridge Aboriginal music with mainstream, and this song is legendary. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
I've watched Mitch Tambo grow up. I met him as a 17 year old, and now he's playing in footy stadiums and duet's with John Farnham. 💜 #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX
Another singer/activist who should always be on a list like this. His songs reflect the essence of Stolen Generations and continues to speak about the pain and struggle to find the way home. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #IndigenousX

Archie Roach -
Guys, add any Indigenous artists if you want. This list is just a small reflection of the amazing Indigenous talent out there, and I love listening to new and emerging artists. So please, don't hesitate to add more people to the list! #IndigenousX
