Among the items being deferred is a plan to build a 1,000 seat! E-Sports in the South Loop.
A hotel on N. Broadway in Boystown will also be deferred. The proposed hotel is just south of the large development at the former Jewel up the street. https://www.44thward.org/development/major-development-projects/3440-n-broadway/
Chairman Tunney also said he's deferring a clear air ordinance.

Several public speakers have said they support the original ordinance, but are opposed to revisions they said were made at Ald. Sadlowski Garza's request.
Two other late additions to the agenda seek to modify the zoning code in Pilsen and near the 606 trail.
Ald. Burnett said he supports the project and thanks the Plumbers Union for staying in the neighborhood. He also thanks them for building a free-standing parking lot, which he says no one is doing in the city.

The item passes.
It's not a major zoning change. It allows for a new tavern and live music.
(I do love that almost every plan that passes through the Zoning Committee has already been covered by a @BlockClubCHI reporter)
Interesting moment just now: Ald. Villegas asks who in the city keeps track of all the jobs promised to be created by these projects.

Tunney answers there are quarterly reporting requirements.

Villegas asks that @ChicagoDPD present those reports, and a few alders agree.
Here's a new one:

Committee approved plans in 2019 for a site in the 28th ward that was mistakenly listed in the 1st ward.

Former Ald. Moreno (1st) deferred it at City Council.

Developer didn't know this until asking for a building permit.

Committee approves fixed plan today.
Ald. Tunney told zoning attorney Joe Gattuso he has one of the most interesting backdrops of those appearing before the committee, and I must say, I agree.

Peep that beer stein collection.
(double-door project passes)
Plans to designate the Perkins-Nordine House in Edgewater as a historic landmark approved.

Jazz artist Ken Nordine resided at the house until he passed in 2019, according to a DPD staffer.

Ald. Hopkins says Nordine was friend, and he and his wife were huge Blackhawks fans.
Plans to designate the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley House in Woodlawn as a historic landmark are also approved.

Till was a 14-old from Chicago killed by white supremacists in Mississippi 1955.

I'm about ten minutes behind, but the committee is debating two "anti-displacement" measures from Mayor Lightfoot for Pilsen and the 606 area.

You can watch here:
https://www.chicityclerk.com/virtual-committee-zoning-landmarks-and-building-standards-4
These measure are meant to protect 2-4 flat buildings--so called naturally occurring affordable housing--says Housing director of policy @DanielKayHertz .
Those losses have been felt in the two areas the measure covers.
The conversion of 2-4 flats to single family housing speeds up gentrification, Hertz says.

A real estate industry lobbyist spoke against the measures during public comment today.
There's some talk the ordinances could be challenged in court.

Lisa Misher of the Dept. of Law says she's "very confident" they would stand up to any constitutional challenge.

She says it's a very "straightforward" land use issue.
Misher says U.S. law does not guarantee the highest financial return for a property.

Ald. Lopez disagrees, and says it's a taking.
The ordinance for the Pilsen district passes 11-3, with Lopez, Hopkins and Cappleman voting no.
Sometimes you forget about aldermanic prerogative and then the aldermen let you know exactly why they're voting for an item. https://twitter.com/AlexNitkin/status/1354156147276722176?s=20
The committee is debating the similar ordinance for the 606 area now.

Here are the expanded boundaries, covering an area chopped into 4 wards.
Oof, I did not catch up to the live-stream and it cut out on me.

@AlexNitkin reports the 606 de-conversion ordinance was passed without objection. https://twitter.com/AlexNitkin/status/1354158259955847168?s=20
