WARRIORS-SUNS REWATCH THREAD

That was a sobering loss. Gonna point out what few good things they were able to get on offense plus what the Suns did great on offense.

Starting w/ a familiar staggered screen set for Wiggins.
When opposing teams primarily drop their bigs in transition, it's smart to set a drag screen for Steph Curry w/ whoever is being guarded by the dropping big, as Kevon Looney did here.
These were few and far in-between, but an excellent defensive possession for the Warriors.
Found this really funny when I saw it. Curry sees Jae Crowder not playing Draymond Green close, so he runs his defender through Crowder and practically uses him as a screener, which frees him up for a 3. Smart play.
A glimpse of James Wiseman's post passing. Curry being top-locked allows him to cut backdoor.
This is tough. By setting a drag screen, the Suns get roll man action going, which forces help from the weak-side corner. No one is helping the helper, so the corner 3 is there for the taking.
The Suns rarely stop moving. They don't give up when one avenue is cut off, instead they find another hole to exploit.
Curry to Wiseman lob off the PnR. I like how Steph is patient with Wiseman's roll and waits for the lob window to open before throwing the ball.
Suns get a bucket off of HORNS, which initially starts as a zipper cut for a man to relocate to the right elbow. Chris Paul initiates give-and-go action with the elbow man, and the Warriors are too slow to switch and stop CP3 from going downhill. Excellent offense from the Suns.
Veteran move from CP3. Eric Paschall sees a smaller man on him and immediately backs him down. But CP3 is too smart for this. He pulls the chair and allows Paschall to fall on his own. Turnover.
This is excellent ball movement from the Suns.
This is a different wrinkle added to split action. It's similar to the staggered screen set they run for Wiggins in the corner, only in a different configuration.
Again, why using the big who's being guarded by a mediocre defender in space as the screener for Curry is smart, especially if they're not going to hedge or double.
Warriors run Horns Flex, a common set they run (I think @EricApricot called it "head tap" since the Dubs' hand sign for it is Kerr or Curry tapping their heads). They get nice movement off of it, allowing Looney to get a bucket off of Curry's gravity.
Curry finding a way around the Suns incoming hedge/trap. Draymond is left alone at the wing by CP3, and Ayton is playing a drop, so Curry passes to Draymond and immediately cuts to the rim. Draymond with the pinpoint bounce pass.
High screen for Curry in early offense allows Wiseman to roll unhindered to the rim. Draymond with the nice bullet pass.
What a nice cut from Mikal Bridges. He bails out Kaminsky by catching Wiggins sleeping and beating him backdoor.
After Kelly Oubre falls and misses the layup, Suns run in transition and have a 5-on-4 advantage. Warriors defense can't properly rotate and are stretched thin since they are outnumbered (Oubre's slow to get back), resulting in a corner 3 being given up.
This is simple spread PnR by the Suns. CP3 w/ the nice pocket pass to the rolling Kaminsky, who then instantly passes to Nader in the corner. Oubre decides to help on the roll, leaving the corner shooter open.
Aaand that's a wrap.

Final efficiency numbers for the Dubs

Possessions: 104.0
Offensive rating: 90.3
Defensive rating: 108.6
Net rating: -18.3
Only Curry (27pts), Wiggins (16pts), and Paschall (12pts) were in double figures.

The Suns, on the other hand, had 7 players in double figures. Well-balanced offense from them, which was what they needed w/ Devin Booker being sidelined.
Warriors shot 11-of-38 on threes (28.9%). Off-night for them in that department. Only 8 free-throw attempts compared to the Suns' 23. Dubs struggled to defend the paint as well, allowing 52 PITP while scoring 40 themselves.
Safe to say that the Warriors will mostly be an up-and-down kind of team this season. Unless a miracle occurs (e.g., major developmental leap or mid-season acquisition of another star), it'll be tough to finish high in the standings. Still 3/4 of a season to go, though.
