I can never forget how one of my Christian course mates approached me saying; "Theo, I know you are a Christian but why do you dwell in the company of unbelievers?". Men, I was shocked! In my mind I was like, which of my friends dey worship Amadioha or Ifa? Lol.
Later, I discovered that she was referring to one of my Muslim pals. I was shocked because I felt, it was a university and religious bias should not determine our relationships.
In fact, university or not, religion should not be a sole determinant of our association with people. We could be friends and have different opinions or ideologies about same or different other things.
I'll not even go into the one where someone told me that Catholics are not Christians.. Lol.
We have a generation of Christians that are more concerned about using the upper case "G" to spell god, because he'll be offended if you don't. But these same Christians rarely are genuinely kind or generous.
Did the Bible not say something about being kind to "Gentiles"? Many of us wouldn't be good persons because it is inherently good to be good. Many persons practice a reward-based system of religion..." Being good because of paradise"
If the construct of religion wasn't invented, who knows the level of inhumanity the world would have suffered. There would have been nor moral or ethical leash to actions..
In the end, we are all unbelievers because we don't believe in same God. But all the religions preach the same tenets; love, sacrifice, charity. We rarely look at operating from a point of convergence, its the difference that bothers us all.
Its easy to condemn the Islamic fanatics that are causing nuisance in the name of Allah... They probably want an 'islamized' nation yeah? It really looks insane what they are demanding.
But on Sunday we'll go to Church and sing "The walls of Jericho fell down flat". If we are being fair, and in retrospect, did the Israelites not use the tactics of insurgency to get into Jericho? Ohhh, I'm probably going too far.
I've probably touched a very sensitive muscle. The Kingdom of Israel wagged wars and conquered many kingdoms because they were unbelievers and they did it ..."in the name of God".
...in the end we are all unbelievers, and we could be good without expecting a reward for it.
