The Great practitioner of Non violence & the man who got India independence from British actually served under British in both Boer war & Zulu rebellion. So he was basically fighting for British to snatch freedom away from Dutch Boers & African Zulus. (1)
After returning to India Gandhi wrote in favour of continued British rule in India. He further proved his loyalty to the crown by setting up recruitment camps to get Indians to sign up for British army to fight in WW2. He received the Highest Civilian award for his efforts. (2)
Gandhi didn't like Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekar azad and many more. He referred to them as "misguided" even when it was in his power to help these revolutionaries he refused to do so. While revolutionaries were getting hanged Gandhi only suffered small stints in prison. (3)

So how is this myth still alive? Well you can thank a specific family who share Gandhi's name but not his blood. They kept glorifying Gandhi as the paragon of Indian independence while keeping his legacy of weakening India by over restraint & diplomacy Alive till this day. (End)
