You know what, let's watch some Jazz/Mavericks https://twitter.com/ChrisGFields/status/1355505520065597444
Jazz have been firing away from deep and succeeding so far. The pace and tempo has improved. Ever since they played the Pelicans I've noticed a shift in bending defenses to *create* those open looks and that's what I keep checking when I watch the Jazz. Taking what D gives them.
Mike Conley has been playing at such a high level, makes this play right here. When he comes off KP is at the level but dropping back with Gobert's roll. Hesitates, attacks and as soon as Gobert gets behind KP/KP engages throws the lob.
Watch the ball movement from the Jazz. Once they get you in rotation they keep moving it until they make you pay. Conley cuts backdoor, defense shifts and pulls in on the roll. Hits Gobert rolling who kicks it out and now it's extra passes/drive and kick to keep you in rotation.
(also I've seen enough to salute Rudy Gobert for improving on his ability to kick out when he catches on the roll. That feels like an underrated part of what the Jazz have been doing)
Look at the ball movement on this fast break from Utah. Looks like a drill.
Another shift for Utah, taking the pullup 3 vs. drop coverage. Instead of forcing the drive, hoping the defense will help or allowing them to stay home they are letting it fly.
Dallas looks like a team searching for the right combinations to unlock what they want to do offensively. Get you in rotation and make you pay. Haven't been able to consistently get to it.
Dallas goes Spain P&R here, Jazz switch the first screen and Niang is helping as WCS rolls. Clarkson gets to stay home. Utah able to recover, Dallas unable to force any movement.
Utah got Clarkson and gave him the green light and I don't think he's ever looked back.
