Short thread on helping those with ADHD:
I read once that the human attention span is about 11 seconds.
Humans can also generate about 7 independent thoughts at a time.
That's roughly 1.5 seconds of associated thoughts.
Many with ADHD struggle with object permanence.

Object permanence is the understanding that objects continue to exist even when they cannot be seen, heard, or otherwise sensed. Basically out of sight, out of mind.
Here's the tricky part... it isn't out of mind.

It takes time to cycle through and by that time, another 7 thoughts have entered which is distracting from the original. This causes distress.
Non-pharmacological intervention works well for many. This can include making a list of activities requiring time and effort.

It's easy to say "clean the room". It's difficult to clean the room when that single activity involves a myriad of independent steps e.g. dust, organize, properly dispose of old mail (is this mail worth keeping i.e. a bill?), and lots of other site specifics.
Remember that object permanence from earlier?
Thise activities that take the person into another room or environment remove the first step "clean the room".
Make the list more specific to prevent environmental change for a limited time frame.

For quiet activities like reading, maintain a distraction free environment with engaging reading. In my personal opinion, any reading is good reading. It develops interest(s) in abstract ideas which develops better object permanence.
It may take all day to cover the list, so schedule breaks, meals, recreation, and rest.
Of course counseling and pharmaceutical assistance will help.
I just wanted take a minute to help you all understand that ADHD is more than flighty ideas or distraction. It can greatly affect the patient's daily life in negative ways.

Teachers, keep that in mind. Use that library for a quite environment.
Parents, be patient.
Adults, don't make it worse. Don't feed it.
Obviously this is not all-inclusive. It's to raise awareness.
