Had a semi-heated conversation with a politically correct friend tonight. Befuddles me that a genuinely good, smart person can think how she does.
She asked me how I'd feel if one of my nieces or nephews came out as trans.
I told her honestly: I'd be absolutely heartbroken. 1/3

She asked me why, as if my answer was incomprehensible.
Gender dysphoria nearly ruined my life. Of course I'd be heartbroken if I ever found out that someone I love has this awful condition.
Why the fuck would anyone celebrate that? 2/3

Being trans isn't beautiful, glamorous or something to celebrate.
It's someone suffering from a horrific mental illness, with a high suicide risk, who is now a lifelong patient for HRT and surgery because their own bodies felt so wrong.
That's heartbreaking, not "fabulous." 3/3
