I'm curious whether folks who complain about Ginni Thomas's political activism have thought about the gender implications of saying that people with very successful spouses need to pipe down and keep quiet.

(And no, this isn't a defense of emailing the Thomas clerk listserv)
I'm obviously not defending Ginni Thomas. I don't share her views & I don't have much respect for anyone who buys into the "stop the steal" election fraud nonsense.

(And although I think it's obvious I'm not defending her, like 40% of the responses to my tweet assumed I was)
You can think that Ginni Thomas has bad views. You can criticize those views on the merits.

My concern is that the criticism--including criticism before the 2020 election--included people saying that it's a problem for the wife of a Supreme Court Justice to be politically active
The concern is that if we say the spouse of a powerful person--including a judge--has to keep out of politics, that sort of a rule is likely to disproportionately affect women.

That's because, quite sadly, most powerful people in this country are still straight men.
