If ever you wanted to see political policy dressed up as ‘safety theatre’ (designed to look safe rather than to actually be safe) look no further than @MarkMcGowanMP approach to crew isolation requirements and crew overnighting in WA from the eastern states.
For months on end, crew from NSW have been forced to remain in their hotel rooms in WA despite very low/ nil community transmission in NSW. Often Less than 1:6,000,000 chance of having Covid.
WA crew who even transited SA/ NSW/ VIC were required to isolate at home for 14 days on return- even if they didn’t leave the flight deck and had no contact with passengers or staff in those transit states.
Meanwhile, security guards working hotel quarantine in WA, interacting physically with Covid + travellers, were not required to wear PPE, were not prohibited from working a second job, and were allowed to roam free amongst the population, and were not tested regularly for Covid.
It would be funny if it wasn’t so serious. It just shows what two faced, opportunistic, bald faced, lying sods, these political overlords have turned into. It’s all about appearing to do the right thing, not actually about doing the right thing.
