Nova Scotia announced 20 new protected areas today. Let me take a moment to show you some of these places. #NSpoli
Cherry Hill Beach Nature Reserve: Coastal ecosystems, piping plover habitat, recreation and outdoor use, stunning views.
Eastern Shore Islands Wilderness Area Expansion: Coastal archipelago, temperate rainforest, seabird colonies, makes existing protected area bigger, outdoor recreation and adventure.
Barneys River Nature Reserve: Extensive old growth hardwood forest, one of the only protected area opportunities in Pictou County, landscape representation
Wentworth Valley Wilderness Area Expansion: Large intact forests, wildlife corridor, watersheds, makes existing protected area bigger, outdoor recreation.
Medway Lakes Wilderness Area Expansion: Extensive lakes and waterways, backcountry camping and recreation, old forest, species-at-risk habitat, a Keji experience outside Keji.
Sackville River Wilderness Area: Near-urban wilderness protection, iconic river, old forest, species-at-risk habitat, critical link in Halifax Greenbelt, outdoor recreation, wetlands, landscape representation.
A good mixture of sites all around Nova Scotia. Includes Cobequid Hills, Cape Breton Highlands, Eastern Shore, Greater Halifax, South Shore. I'm fortunate that I've been to most of these sites.
