So many ppl writing to me saying they’re trying to do the right thing.

—Should I get vaccinated to protect others if I can?

—Should I support my local taco place w takeout if cooks are in danger?

The problem isn’t YOU. This is neoliberalism making your feel bad.
As I wrote yesterday yes, we need less "I got mine" and more "How can we all protect each other" thinking. But a lot of people are TRYING to do this, within limiting systems and w few options (ie, supporting their local taco joint to try to save it)
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/if-youve-been-working-from-home-please-wait-for-your-vaccine1/
But this is what neoliebralism does, right? It puts the onus on YOU.

It's all about YOU.

It's all about CHOICE.

So, you feel responsible for "doing good," & feel deserving if you get a vaccine or support your local business.
I do NOT begrudge ppl for working within the systems which ensnare us. But, as @gregggonsalves wrote in the Atlantic, https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/02/vaccine-line-illogical/617881/
COVID demands we reconsider all of our most deeply held assumptions.

But it is the systems that are failing us—not the individual choices (which are programmed to be choices w great limitations) we all make.

How can not just make better choices, but create a better SYSTEM?
It's like GoFundMe as a form of insurance.

How can we not choose better & more GoFundMes to support,

HOW CAN WE MAKE A SYSTEM WHERE GOFUNDME ISN'T NECESSARY?
This is how we might think about choices in the pandemic.

It's not just how/when should I get a vaccine (or not), or should I eat outdoors are my local cafe, so I can affect one life...

Let's get rid of a GoFundMe model of governance & economics, yes?
