Honourable Mention: Eternal Atake - Lil Uzi Vert
A really fun and energetic album with some great highs! Gets a little bit repetitive towards the back end so just misses out on the top ten!

#10: Alfredo - Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist
Fast flows and luxurious beats make this a great listen that doesn’t outstay its welcome. The chemistry between Gibbs and Alchemist is fantastic and the features all deliver!

#9: Whole Lotta Red - Playboi Carti
An exuberant and unique album that really grows on you over time. Carti’s energy is infectious and the electro sounding production does enough to keep the project interesting over the 24 tracks

#8: RTJ4 - Run The Jewels
RTJ tend to divide opinion on Twitter but I really like this album! The record has an epic, menacing feel to it, with the tracks taking unexpected twists and turns to make for a thrilling listening experience.

#7: A Written Testimony - Jay Electronica
Bar for bar this is probably the best album of the year. It’s splendid hearing Jay Elec and recurring feature Jay-Z spit lavish verse after lavish verse over grand and busy production.
Favourite Song: A.P.I.T.D.A

#6: Circles - Mac Miller
A truly beautiful record from start to finish. The beats are largely made up of soothing midtempos, complimented perfectly by Mac’s mellow singing and smooth flows. May he rest in peace.

#5: Man On The Moon III: The Chosen - Kid Cudi
The third instalment of the famous MOTM trilogy didn’t disappoint me. I really enjoy Cudi’s deep vocals alongside the mystical instrumentals on a lot of songs and the hooks get stuck in my head for days.

#4: Featuring Ty Dolla $ign - Ty Dolla $ign
I didn’t expect to like this album nearly as much as I did! Predictably, I was drawn by the stacked feature list, but the soulful swagger of Ty’s vocals kept me coming back for multiple relistens too!

#3: King’s Disease - Nas
Brilliant lyricism, lush production. Nas further cements his status as a top 5 MC (as if it was needed) with a grand, introspective album that leaves you wanting more.

Who would have thought it was possible to love this man even more?! Allowing yourself to fall into a trance to his wonderful melodies is complete bliss. An emotional, fully immersive masterpiece.

#1: Savage Mode II - 21 Savage & Metro Boomin
I adore this record. Morgan Freeman’s narration sets the tone for this devilish sensation of an album. Metro’s flawless production and 21’s cold flow create a sinister rollercoaster I love to revist.
