Every few days a screenshot goes viral of some brainwormed nerd who hits on a woman in the DMs, thinks back to his Jedi training and recalls "negging is good", and proceeds to call her a fucking bitch
So, uh, maybe not https://twitter.com/hpmacd/status/1357346894498828292

So much of the PUA/"game"/manosphere's dating advice revolved around a man's ability to seduce new women into sleeping with him rather than how to cultivate good relationships. This leads to pathological, addictive behavior
Some of the "game" nerds tried to get around this. E.g., Christian reactionary Vox Day offered PUA advice under the pretense that a woman who will follow you to bed is also one who will follow you to church, even to the altar. His acolytes remained the same class of lonely nerds
Advice re: appearance was often very suspect, too. Get swole and lean, sure. But very little advice on skincare or hair care. Those are feminine. Real men use the same all-in-one body wash, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, colon cleanse their entire lives.
Maybe some advice was good. Don't sacrifice your dignity, don't be a simp or a doormat, cut your losses when a relationship is toxic or isn't meeting your needs, etc.--but these are good advice out of sheer self-interest, not because they're the Konami code to sleeping with women
"Herrgottsbescheißerle" or "mini Lord God-deceivers" are a kind of Swabian ravioli you eat during Lent because God apparently can't see through the pasta and therefore can't tell you're eating meat. The meat itself is pretty good. The pasta, meh.
That was always PUA. Some good advice, wrapped in a bunch of bullshit designed to trick you.
PUA was the OG millennial grift. It successfully weakened many men's innate immunity against grifter brainworms (Gamergate, Trumpism, etc.)

People forget just how widespread the grift was. You could pay thousands of dollars for "game" seminars in which you'd learn how to hack the Matrix and pick up women in bars. Some of the same people would go on to run other high-level grifts targeting weak-willed right-wing men
PUA may have taught men to be wary of being manipulated by women. But it apparently did not teach them to be wary of being manipulated in any other way, for example by grifters or kleptocrats. One kind of mark simply gave way to another
Many moved on to greener pastures, realizing that "sleep with lots of women" is not a path to happiness. Roosh, who once wrote a book called "don't bang Denmark" (maybe a Danish girl spurned him?), rebranded as some kind of bizarro misogynist Christian reactionary
In a sense PUA is about self-deception. This can be good. If you're naturally prone to being manipulated into toxic relationships, self-deceiving into being detached can sometimes be good. Depending on the game, sometimes you need to play hawk or defect. https://twitter.com/koaleszenz/status/1275209972394217473
But to develop a good relationship, if you're not naturally altruistic, sometimes you need to self-deceive into putting another's needs first, following through on commitment, etc.--"in for a penny, in for a pound"! This was always antithetical to the sheer sociopathy of PUA
I imagine a large number of women (and men!) have been severely hurt by PUA-obsessed partners.
Maybe PUA helped some people. Brain worms, like many pathogens, can become benign in some hosts. But there's always the risk that they will mutate into a more virulent form.
