Just realizing that a blatant lie is an effective loyalty test.
If you say that 2+2=5, you know that whoever rushes to agree with you can be relied upon to do anything.
This explains why my abuser fought me so hard on truths I refused to deny. See also: The GOP.

My abuser was really touchy about loyalty. In these huge fights in which I was expected to deny my reality in favor of his, he often accused me of not "supporting" him, which was his way of expressing a loyalty demand.
He made it a huge point to say I was not loyal, many times. Like shortly after my autism diagnosis, he was going through a list in front of the whole family of why autistic people make good partners, and when he got to the loyalty part, he said, "Well, Luna doesn't do this one."
This #AbuseCulture tidbit is about the intersection of "fake news" and the insatiable need for loyalty that narcissists and abusers have. The first is a way to ensure the latter. And if you don't believe? You're disloyal and deserving of the worst punishments.
(For the record, I don't know how you can say I was disloyal when I suffered tremendous abuses, hypocrisies, and betrayals, increasing over time, for 7 full years before I finally decided to leave him.)
P.S. If you're a narcissist looking for unquestioning loyalty, while an autist may be easy to manipulate, and while we are in fact inherently loyal to a fault, you're going to struggle with getting us to do anything other than call it like we see it. Give up now.
The associated paraphrased quote from Voltaire is, "Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities." Full quote in next tweet:
"..whoever is able to make you absurd is able to make you unjust. If the God-given understanding of your mind does not resist a demand to believe what is impossible, then you will not resist a demand to do wrong… "
"...As soon as one faculty of your soul has been dominated, other faculties will follow... And from this derives all those crimes of religion [or dogma] which have overrun the world."
