1) @EquityUK @WeAreTheMU @bectu @FIA_actors already had freedom to travel and work in EU. We already had the privilege of EU artists writers actors musicians designers working in our festivals and theatres and venues. We lost this because of Brexit https://twitter.com/paulwfleming/status/1348221759301033985
2) - campaigned for by our General secretary. I am an actor in Scotland. It is shaming to be part of a union now led by someone who wants to plead a special case for our Union to mitigate circumstances that he openly advocated.
3) Setting aside all other issues that we have with the union at the moment re:compulsory redundancies of staff this is shabby and distasteful to those of us who have believed in our Union as a unifying force that connects us with other workers in other industries
4) not as a lobbying organisation seeking preferential treatment in the face of consequences that most of us could see and predicted. Our festivals here in Scotland: Edinburgh International, Fringe, Book, Film, Art, Music, Sciences have been blessed since their inception
5) with a myriad of extraordinary European artists and contributors since 1948 when the great Bruno Walter conducted the equally great Kathleen Ferrier in Mahler's Lied von der Erde at the first Edinburgh International Festival.
6) If Paul Fleming while campaigning against free movement of labour really thought that labour would not lose the right of free movement within the EU with a Brexit victory it is not unreasonable to wonder if he is in the right job.
7) If he thinks elevating the rights of one set of workers over others is acceptable it is not unreasonable to wonder if he is in the right party. For most of us in Scottish Equity the breaking of EU ties and exchanges is grievous. The govt rejecting the EU visa agreement is
8) disgraceful. A union leader back pedalling on a campaign that he fought for because he can't take the consequences is pathetic.
9) We all deserve better. In all unions across Europe.
