There is only one at nurse at the Barracks.
“I have tested positive for Covid,” the man tells me, coughing repeatedly as we talk. “I was very sick, shivering and in pain. Now I just cough and cough. There is no doctor here and I have had no medical help, not even paracetamol.”
The men sleep in cubicles they try to cordon off with bedsheets, and share squalid bathrooms, which they must use for drinking water.
Residents say there is often no heating despite -0 temperatures, and power cuts. The kitchens are out of operation, with often only cold food.
This is despite reports that the private firm Clearsprings Ready Homes (owned by Essex businessman Graham King) stands to earn £1billion over 10 years from its lucrative asylum contracts, that include running Napier.
Which is the real "insult to the taxpayer".
