I've been reviewing @historyrespawn analytics, and I thought I would share what I've discovered. First, the show is attracting a lot of new subscribers to both the YouTube channel and the podcast.
The YouTube channel will have 10,000 subscribers soon. That's crazy. The show added nearly 2,000 subscribers last year, making it our biggest year yet.
Now, 10k subscribers is tiny in terms of YouTube, but compared to other academic channels on the site, it's pretty pretty pretty good.
The podcast, which wouldn't exist without Patron support and only started four years ago, averages a thousand downloads per episode. For something that only comes out once a month (if that), that's also not bad.
What's weird for me about all this, is that @historyrespawn is now old enough to have a back-catalog, which drives a lot of our downloads/views. Thousands of downloads and views each month from people going over old content. I feel like I'm running a classic rock radio station.
The audience for @historyrespawn has always been niche, but I feel like that niche has gotten bigger this past year. There's also more academics than ever before interested in this field. Basically, there's never been a better time to be interested in history and games.
