A THREAD explaining what I liked about that game against West Brom, including some stuff that we have been crying out for these past weeks!
Tottenham actually looked at a vulnerable relegation battler and decided to go for the kill from minute one, rather than inviting pressure and allowing them to build confidence.
The more attacking style not only allowed Spurs to take advantage of their world class attack, but also took the pressure off the defence, reducing their role to mopping up the odd long ball/break
Tanguy Ndombele was used as a holding midfielder in a smaller game, allowing Spurs to take more risks without leaving themselves too open. I don't think it works against heavy hitters with the players to exploit it, but against West Brom it was perfect!
Mourinho shuffled his pack and tried out some new stuff rather than picking the same old stale line-up. Lamela and Moura were outstanding in their alternating central/right-mid roles today. Lamela will surely start against Everton too.
The Spurs boss was also heard urging his players to press from the front, something we have rarely seen this season. It works and we should do it in every game. Simple.
I also liked how the full-backs were given the chance to push way up today, with the centre-backs and centre-mids covering. It gave us width and created space for the attackers.
Tottenham didn't take their foot off the gas at 1-0 today. They pushed hard and took risks for the second before reducing it to a scrappy game. Much better to see!
Hojbjerg's role in these kinds of games is also important. Not only does he break up play, but he gets forward, becomes an extra man and is actually coming up with goals and assists now. Great to see.
Overall, although the three points were important, I was even happier with the performance itself #COYS
