If physicians are burnt out *just* being a physician, what does that mean for us trying to dismantle all that is wrong with the system beyond the individual? Lacking intergenerational wealth? There should be a burnout + syndrome.... because all aren’t carrying the same burdens.
I ask because what relieving burnout means for me is beyond acccess to mental health resources and reducing expectations for perfectionism. As I listen in to a discussion on burnout, I’m curious #medtwitter #psychtwitter #meded what solutions have you heard that are 👍🏾 or 👎🏾?
One idea that I’d like to hear feedback on 👍🏾 or 👎🏾 : physician coaches vs traditional therapy? I see many coaches offering paid services for depression, anxiety and other issues that are labeled “imposter syndrome” thus non-medicalized. Hmmmm
I don’t need a coach, personally. I need colleagues committed to addressing the root issues. Joining the fight. Confronting the -isms. The culture. The aggressions.
I should add, coaches can be helpful. However, I and others really need dogs in this fight to address the root causes.
