1 like = 1 good or great martial arts film
1. 36th Chamber of Shaolin... It is a classic masterpiece for a reason. A revolutionary escapes to the temple to emerge as a fighting arts master who incites insurrection. Directed by Lau kar Leung, maybe the best fighting arts director ever.
2. The Street Fighter... Sonny Chiba baby. He is a legend for a reason & this was his break out movie. This is not for the story. It is for the fighting & charisma of Chiba
3. Human Lanterns... A horror film with a wuxia aesthetic. It has probably the most intense villain in any martial arts film, a pervading creepiness of the entire film, the gorgeous cinematography gore & the fact that it has the bleakest "heroes" in any classic shaw bros
4. Enter the Dragon... Not gonna prolong it. I am not a huge Bruce Lee fan. I think he is very overrated as an action star. That said this is his most polished & great film that showcases his strengths as a performer.
5. Five Deadly Venoms... a ultimate cult classic. Wonderful, choreography, wire work & performances.
6. Master of the Flying Guilotine... Jimmy Wang Yu manages to create one of the most striking opening scenes with the titular master jumping out of his house & then exploding it.
A wonderful film in its choreography & its lore building. The weirdness is strangely naturalistic

7. Ong-Bak...
8. SPL (Killzone)... SPL is a fast moving & great plotted film that captures a frenic & intensity that had kinda been lost in the mid 00s hong kong action. here it is in full blown form
9. Project A... this is sometimes called the first "Jackie Chan" movie & i kinda agree with this sentiment. It is the first film where Chan has complete control over the choreography & it results in a fast paced story about Hong Kong habour patrol fighting pirates
10. Encounters of the Spooky Kind... The focus on Jackie Chan in the west usually leaves Sammo Hung to be lost in the wind despite him being the better director imo. Encounters is one of his best films that showcases his talents at action, comedy & horror.
11. Wheels on Meals... Whilst Project A may have been the first "Jackie Chan" film. This is probably the best one & it has everything. Yuen Bao & Sammo Hung as fellow leadmen, acrobatic comedy & the best 1 vs 1 fight scene of all time.
12. One Armed Swordsman... The classic of all classics. A suprisingly bleak film that nonetheless has great sword action & brilliant set design as well as acting.
13. The Raid... You cannot really make a list without mentioning the Raid. Fast paced, frenetic & brilliant direction. It is a modern classic that shows how to do it in the modern age.
14. City of Violence.... This is imo a bit of a forgotten one & that is a shame. It is a revenge film with two friends going against a city to get the truth. Korean action at its finest.
15. Accident Man... the undisputed western king of modern martial arts movies is Scott Adkins. Accident Man is probably his best film.
