I really think an independent, fully-funded, Canadian Center for Firearms Injury Research, would be a major step in developing appropriate evidence-based measures to reduce firearms injury and death in Canada.
Perhaps under the auspices of ICES or the trauma programs at St. Mike's or Sunnybrook, we could develop a made-in-Canada approach to understanding and reducing gun violence from a Canadian context.

For a modest initial sum, I think the Canadian government would signal that they are really serious about understanding the firearms violence issue in all its forms - not just criminal issues but also mental health, domestic violence and mass shootings.
Minister @BillBlair this is a non-partisan, no-brainer win for science directed and evidence-based public health policy.
