Here are my thoughts, (thread)

Carr has about 5yrs left, if that, as I believe he'll retire then or earlier to serve his church which is fine, that's his deal

So keeping him would cost us another max deal, he's not going to sign cheap, do you think he's worth $35+mil AAV?
To me it just makes the most business sense to trade for DeShaun Watson if you can get it done.

If we move Carr for 2 1sts then Watson only costs the Raiders 2 1sts out our own picks.

Watson comes in at $10mil cheaper which can then be used to help get defensive guys in FA
And there's still the option of trading Mariota for more picks and further cap relief of $11mil.

Watson himself would be under contract for the next 5yrs at equal to or less than what a Carr extension would be at $35mil AAV

I personally think it makes the most sense to
Trade for Watson because you are getting a QB that is high level and you know will give you a chance to consistently compete every year for the next 10-12+yrs. 5-7+yrs longer than keeping Carr. The cost of 2 1sts is cheap to ensure that kind play at that position for that long
So that comes down to

Keep Carr:
• Sign him to 5yr/$175-190mil
• Keep 2 1sts

Trade for Mariota:
• High Value QB for 12+yrs
• Costs 2 1sts (can't even move up in the draft for that)
• $10mil Saving this year to spend on defense
• Trade Mariota use picks for D and $$ on D
I know a lot of people out there like Carr so do I but I'd personally take 12+yrs of high level QB play over 5yrs for the cost of only 2 1st round picks.

We still have enough money and picks to fix this defense and the guys we already have will play better under Bradley imo
That's where I'm at. It's not personal. It's what is best for the team long term.
