Our CBs get a ton of flak, especially recently. While we've seen enormous praise heaped on the Man City partnership. But what you don't see is that Dias and Stones are 2 of the least "busy" CBs in Europe, while Maguire and Lindelof are 2 of the busiest. (1/4)
Credit to @smarterscout for this data. We can see here that Stones and Dias are in the bottom 15% and 8% in the PL in terms of defending quantity. They are also in the bottom 1% of progressive passers from CB. Pep's heavy possession style leaves them well protected by Rodri.
Meanwhile we can see per our first chart as well as this one, that Harry Maguire is one of the busiest CBs in the league, and also one of the best duelers. Lindelof while not as busy, is still more active than both Dias and Stones.
While it's nice to pile on our players - Pep has been making average CBs like Stones, Otamendi and others, look like geniuses at Man City for some time. Based on the data, it's clear that City have a better system + a world class DM protecting their CBs, compared to United.
