#IAmNotACat the US zoom clip & recent CVP cat appearance has made me think that the criminal justice system is being used as light relief during the pandemic ... #TheLawIsBroken #FakeLaw #HMCTS #MOJ
Back in March 2020, hmcts staff were minding their own business when lockdown hit & the letter was sent explaining we are now key workers. My court did not close even when trials were paused or stopped. Some worked from home but many cannot.
Majority of clerks & ushers are over 60 & some with underlying health issues. We are still waiting for a decision on a pay rise from 2020 as well as 2021. We do not teach your children. We do not deliver your post or food. We do not care for your parents or loved ones....
We do help in keeping the criminal justice system going. We look after the jurors, we deal with witnesses, we work with prison guards, with dock officers, with court security, with jury bailiffs, with barristers, with defendants, with journalists, with cleaners, with list office
I am in a building 08:15 - 16:30 with potentially hundreds of people & quite frankly no one gives a shit. I am staggered that the coverage our trials get & the number of journalists that come & go has garnered, to my knowledge, nothing in the media in regards to covid.
I am fully aware that my place of work is far better than most crown or mags courts but what feels like silence from @BBCNews @BBCLondonNews @itvnews @SkyNews @Channel4News @bbc5live @BBCNewsnight is heartbreaking. Colleagues, jurors & counsel getting sick while we drown in cases
CJS is not glamorous in the eyes of the media (I do try my best, but you do what you can with a gown & I don't get to wear a wig) & we may not literally be saving lives or giving you respite from your kids which the news is very keen on however we deserve to be heard
We are not the 'And finally...' end of the news segment. @BarristerSecret @TheSecretMagis2 @BarristerSecret @secret_usher @Joanna__Hardy @EssexBarrister
