Slowthai recently released the 4th single “Cancelled” for his second studio album TYRON
Cancelled was released alongside a music video, in the music video there are multiple references to iconic horror movie scenes and characters. This is going to be a thread explaining them.

The Music video starts with a creepy Slowthai talking to Skepta over the phone and asking if he is alone. This could very likely be a reference to a scene in the movie Scream in which the killer asks Casey what her favorite scary movie is.
The second reference comes from the movie American Psycho. In the music video Thai is talking to a man, but also the audience about his new album TYRON, specifically the song Cancelled. He calls it his “most accomplished album” and calls Cancelled an “undisputed masterpiece”
which is a direct reference to when Patrick Bateman calls Huey Lewis and The News’ album Fore! the “most accomplished album” and also calls their song Hip To Be Square their “undisputed masterpiece”.
After both Thai and Patrick say this they proceed to murder the man Paul with an axe.
The third reference also comes from American Psycho. Skepta peels off a face mask in a camera angle and shot that looks very similar to when Patrick Bateman did it.
The next reference is to the movie Candyman. It’s a classic movie in which there is an urban legend about a killer with a hook for a hand. In the movie Candyman is played by the one and only Tony Todd.
The urban legend states that if you say “Candyman” 5 times in a mirror then Candyman will come and kill you with his hook hand. In the music video you can see Skepta as Candyman. Skepta then proceeds to gut someone with his hook.
The final reference is to the movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. At the end of the movie we get the iconic scene of Leatherface doing a little dance and spinning his chainsaw above his head. Skepta mirrors this in the video and does a very accurate portrayal of the killer.
