I know nobody cares when I talk about music but LET ME DO THIS TOO PLEASE
J Dilla - Donuts

this is the album that inspired me to start making music, and tbh that's the biggest praise I can give
the way he chops these samples and gives them otherwordly grooves, melodies, atmospheres, idk makes it so unique
plus the pacing of the whole thing is just-
-flawless, it's a hyperactive cascade of beats and yet it is incredibly chill and easy to just get lost in
there's so much more I wanna talk about but I just can't possibly express how much I love this album
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven (2000)

this one is so emotionally intense for me I can't even listen to it that much
it goes from blissful to crushingly depressing, it made me shiver and cry, it evokes dreamscapes and nightmares
My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade (2006)

yes I'm emo as fuck but when so many of the catchiest and most emotionally compelling pop rock songs I've ever heard landed on this single album can you really blame me
Madvillainy - Madvillain (2004)

aside from Dilla (and maybe one other guy I'll talk about in a few albums), the only artist I truly look up to artistically is Madlib
his weird yet super smooth beats just speak to me that much
only DOOM's alien lyricism and flow could match that
きのこ帝国 (Kinokoteikoku) - 渦になる (Uzu ni Naru) (2012)

aaand we're back to emotionally scarring albums
out of the 7 tracks on here, 4 managed to make me cry and one (スクールフィクション / School Fiction) is some of the most cathartic shit I've heard
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless (1991)

this one sparked my love for shoegaze and I have yet to hear an album that envelops me in that dreamy blissful atmosphere as strongly
Nujabes - Spiritual State (2011)

I'm not even sure if this is my favorite Nujabes album anymore but it being posthumous and its greater focus on soundscapes really make it hit different
just a fucking trip
Daft Punk - Random Access Memories (2013)

this was my all-time favorite album for a long time and even without listening to it for a while, it's still up there
its vibe is just... unique, idk
+it's so varied, like there's so many different emotions packed into these 75mn
The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute (2005)

sometimes the closing track of your album just gotta be this insane 30mn epic that just fires in every direction faster than you can comprehend
sometimes the rest of the album is really just as crazy
gonna continue this tomorrow I think
hmm tonight I will
continue this thread
The Avalanches - Since I Left You (2001)

this is like sampler porn
just how do you turn 3500 different samples into such a fun, sweet and catchy listen
65daysofstatic - Wild Light (2013)

around the third of fourth time I listened to this I'm pretty sure I crossed into a parallel dimension I don't know how else I can describe this experience
At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command (2000)

everything from the performances to the refrains to the lyrics just punches me in the face relentlessly and when it's over I'm begging for more
just an incredibly intense album
The Fall of Troy - Doppelganger (2005)

SPEAKING OF INTENSITY
it took me a few listen to even comprehend whatever was going on here
the pacing is breakneck but like, it the literal sense, it actually made my neck hurt
is that a positive comment? of course it is
GZA - Liquid Swords (1995)

Bangers
just grimy, creative, dark and hard Bangers with a capital B
