Hello white autistics,

“blackfishing for autistics” is a horribly problematic way to describe Sia’s film.

Particularly as
1. Black autistic people exist.
2. There is literal blackfishing / blackface going on.
3. We can just say “ableist caricature” w/o co-opting language.
& if you’re white and autistic and engage with this tweet without RTing it, I’m judging you. 🤷🏽‍♀️
As Eb pointed out - the term “Cripping Up” has been used and circulated for a good few years also!

(Couldn’t remember the term when making this tweet bcus it was pre-coffee!) https://twitter.com/ebthen/status/1360591997812297730
I know I’m ranting (but this is my twitter so I’m allowed)

but really the frustrating thing for me that I’m speaking to here is the erasure of race conversations in disability activist spaces!!

It’s gotta be an intersectional lens or it’s bullshit. Truly truly.
Here are some examples.

“autistic minstrel”
“blackface for autistic people”
“blackface minstrel for autism”

....while actual blackfishing is happening.

3 strikes and you’re OUT.
For gods sake people. It’s 2021.
