It’s incredibly stupid to think if we simply released all restrictions, with COVID still abroad, that

A) everybody would instantly go back outside
B) mutation wouldn’t inevitable escape the vaccine

And yet, on go the headlines.

COVID won’t end till we all live in reality.
It’s also nonsense to suggest that we can’t achieve No COVID;

- see smallpox
- see NZ, Australia, South Korea

While “living with it” doesn’t exist anywhere on the planet
COVID isn’t as hardy as TB, or as infectious as measles, or as tricky as HIV:

In fact it’s pretty crap.
- it dies within hours outside the body
- it’s cleared by the vast majority of people within two weeks

So without a new host, the virus LITERALLY disappears.
Imagine an extreme scenario: every single person in the world went into a separate room for two weeks.

COVID would be nearly eliminated globally in a fortnight.

Then add in a test to get out of your room, and a vaccine on the way out. It’s over.
Countries that have managed no covid aren’t magic, they just did the basics really really well. And that was it.

With vaccines this gets much much easier. The hosts the virus finds are much more protected (although we don’t know how much)
Catching COVID isn’t inevitable.
I spent last year face to face with it most days - on tubes, hospital wards, ICUs, Ubers, in a world epicentre.
Never took my mask off, washed my hands. Socially distanced. That was it.
I’ve got some COVID antibodies now ... thanks to the vaccine. So another layer of protection- but that’s all it is, another layer.

Creating the vaccine used more resources and pressured human ingenuity than D-day.

Imagine we landed our boats. And then just gave up.
Look around the world at the economies that are thriving- because they controlled COVID.

Look at the struggles- where they couldn’t.

People don’t go out if they can catch a deadly disease. Because they aren’t, for the most part, idiots. Nor robots.
We reopen after successful vaccinations, we get mutants, we start again.

F**k that. Seriously. 125,000 dead and counting. Can we keep up with mutant strains and vaccines? Not fast enough.
So we must suppress, vaccinate and eliminate.

We are talking extra WEEKS of lockdown to be able to manage this.

This is our chance out, we’ve wasted so many chances, we cannot waste this one. /rant end
