JAY-Z - REASONABLE DOUBT RELISTEN THREAD

As always, I have the lyrics open.
This is one of my favorite albums btw and one of the best HH albums of all time.

Shares appreciated ❤️
Now before I start, obviously I won’t stop for every bar because firstly I wanna enjoy it still and also it’s impossible to get them all because Hov is too slick lmao
1. CAN‘T KNOCK THE HUSTLE

I actually listened to this album before I watched Scarface so it was dope to recognize this skit in the movie when I first watched it. Hov is so incredibly smooth on here man, it just screams style.
I also listened to a lot of Mary J. Blige in the past month and realized what a legend she actually is. Absolute Queen.
I just realized Sean C has production credits on this, the same Sean C who produced the last Black Thought album. I never knew this damn
2. POLITICS AS USUAL

I always loved how Push paid homage to the closing lines of this song on DAYTONA and I love the subtle background vocals behind Hov‘s great verses. Chill ass song.
3. BROOKLYN‘S FINEST

Jay once said that him and Biggie would’ve done an album together if Biggie hadn’t died and that shit would’ve been unbelievable bruh. The chemistry on this is possibly the best I‘ve ever heard apart from OutKast.
Both Hov and Big have a ton of great lines and flows and it’s amazing that they went back-and-forth like this. Name another track with 12 amazing verses that’s as good as this.
Get it.....Tu....Pac‘s?
4. DEAD PRESIDENTS II

At this point it should’ve just been a wrap for this album because bruh..
Hov spits FANTASTIC verses over arguably the best instrumental of all time. So many people have rapped over this and 25 years later there‘s still nobody who comes close to this.
This is one of the tracks on here that could just be considered the best HH song ever and it‘d be a great take. Hov really did make it a hot song.
5. FEELIN‘ IT

Hov‘s pen on this is amazing. ”If every n**** in your clique is rich, your clique is rugged
Nobody will fall 'cause everyone will be each others crutches“ 🔥
The atmosphere and Hov‘s charisma could really fool you but if you listen to what he’s saying it’s really crazy what he says. Talking about concerns his mother has etc and how he’s basically brushing them off.. man.
6. D‘EVILS

Possibly the best Hip Hop song of all time honestly. Fantastic Preemo beat.
Hov‘s storytelling on this is fucking ridiculous man. ”Nine-to-five is how you survive, I ain't tryna survive
I'm tryna live it to the limit and love it a lot“
”We used to fight for building blocks
Now we fight for blocks with buildings that make a killin'“
You know, some songs are just actually too good. This song stuns me every time I hear it. To have storytelling like this and still have wordplay and bars is just insane.
Even if Jehovah witness, beg he‘ll never testify...
7. 22 TWO‘S

Can I kick it??
The live setting of this song is amazing and Jay‘s wordplay is fantastic. Such an energetic song man and it just feels so real and vivid. Great production too. Shoutout to Ski Beatz for all of his amazing work on this record.
8. CAN I LIVE

This was my favorite song on the album for a long time and for good reason. Lyrically, it might actually be the best song on the album.
”My shit is butter for the bread, they wanna toast me“ is so simple yet amazing.
”Lock my body, can't trap my mind
Easily explain why we adapt to crime
I'd rather die enormous than live dormant, that's how we on it“.. Hov was different on this bruh. ”We don't lease, we buy the whole car, as you should“ this dude was giving ownership game in 1996.
All in all this is definitely one of my favorite songs ever bruh. Absolutely perfect.
9. AIN‘T NO N****

Unfortunately, this is by far the worst song on the album for me. Hov‘s flow is pretty great on this but I never really liked the hook and the beat neither. Foxy‘s verse on here is good but overall I just don’t really enjoy this and it’s a huge dip in quality.
10. FRIEND OR FOE

This track is so dope man because it’s one of the most authentic conversations I’ve heard. Hov just sounds completely real.
11. COMING OF AGE

Again, the relationship in this song between Jay and Memphis Bleek is just portrayed perfectly. This is especially done with the direct conversation in the last verse.
This just makes me think about the potential Biggie and Hov album again.. imagine if they would’ve done tracks where they had characters and conversations...
I don’t why but Twitter only lets you do 25 tweets in a thread in drafts so Ima have to switch to live tweeting now. 😒
12. CASHMERE THOUGHTS

Hov is just so smooth man. This is not one of my favorites on the album at all but still a pretty dope track with dope production.
13. BRING IT ON

I can’t lie I sometimes forget about this track despite it having great Preemo production and a dope hook along with dope ass Sauce Money and Jaz-O verses lmao. But it is a very very dope track.
Mannerisms of a young Bobby DeNiro.. 🔥
Jaz-O said Fahrvergnügen lmaooo wtf 🇩🇪
14. REGRETS

The outro is one of the most overlooked Jay tracks I feel like. Hov is on his A game with some dope personal content and man some of this is actually hard hitting as hell. Shit.
FINAL THOUGHTS

To no surprise, this is still one of my favorite albums and one of the best ever. I can’t think of an album that feels as real, authentic and charismatic as this. The production choices on the whole thing are great, Hov‘s performance is among the best in the genre
and the feature appearances are great too. The highs are all time great and if some of the ”weaker“ tracks had been on par with the rest, this would be the best HH album ever. Masterpiece.
Thank you for reading and again, shares are appreciated 🙏 This was fun as hell tbh
