I'm only now seeing the screen grabs of how autism is physically portrayed in 'Music', that 'love letter to the autistic community' by @Sia and it's making me feel like years of advocacy by ordinary autistic people has been wiped out by a single thoughtless act by a celebrity.
So much hard work by so many autistic people on social media, to try to reduce stigma and increase understanding, and along comes an overindulged non-autistic famous person who effortlessly destroys it all. The platforms we've spent years building, insignificant to her audience.
She has millions of fans, many of whom are so fanatical they won't hear a bad word. The vile stereotypes and messages of 'Music' will cement in their heads.

The film will have a reach that autism advocacy can only dream of, and it's using it to spread harm.
Kids in school are going to mocked using the movie's inaccurate, schoolyard impersonations of autism, after years of trying to reduce this. I'm so angry I can't think straight. How dare anyone fuck up the self advocacy of a minority group in this arrogant, foolish way?
And she wouldn't listen. Well I hope you're listening now, @Sia, as the damning reviews tumble in - you have really screwed this up. You've damaged autistic advocacy and caused distress for millions of people you claim to care about.
