/12: A few months ago I was having a conversation with @gemwave, and he asked me to listen to an idea he was working on. He sent me a soundcloud link to a 9 minute session of him just grooving and twisting knobs, exploring the possibilities around a few basic ideas.
/12: I thought it was really cool, but I also told him my honest opinion: There were a few key things that could help really help focus it and make it blossom.
/12: He agreed that it needed a bit more work and then sort of off-hand he asked me if I had ever done mixing and mastering for someone else? I hadn't, but I thought it could be a nice exercise. Alright, he said, maybe he'll send it over when he's worked on it some more...
/12: A few days later he wrote me again and asked for an email address to send me the audio files. I was really impressed with what I received. The 9 minute playaround had been distilled into a more fitting 6 minutes.
/12: The ideas were still evolving and exploring, but had also been shaved into a more refined selection of permutations. Things had been cut, and others added. Now this was a track!
/12: I told him I couldn't make any promises about neither timeframe nor quality, but I'd give it my best try. I quickly felt like I actually had a good handle on it, and was able to produce a result that worked rather well.
/12: And when I sent the first master back, Gemwave was very happy as well! There were a few notes, but nothing really major. We were on the same wavelength.
/12: As it happened, he had been working on as well, and soon had another track... And then another, and another... I kept mixing and he kept liking what I did, to the extent that he let me make more and more decisions about the production and how to shape the soundscapes.
/12: He had told be from the start that he had an idea about telling a story with these tracks. Once we had 5 finished tracks, that story, even without the text that now accompanies the EP, felt complete.
/12: I ended up making some big choices about the overall sound, and Gemwave was so pleased with what I did that we agreed on a shared producer credit. What had started as just an exercise turned into a great partnership and an amazing EP.
/12: I had no idea when we started how fantastic the end result would be.

I am truly honoured to have been not just a witness to Gemwave's ingenious compositions, but also allowed to put my touch on both individual elements and the overall experience.
/12: The finished EP 'Gemesis' is available now on bandcamp and major streaming services (more coming soon).
Please give it a listen, and consider supporting Gemwave, who I think is truly a rising star in the synth scene ^_^
