Does critical thinking make you vulnerable to disinformation? There's a "done wrongly" caveat here, but I still don't agree that "critical thinking is deep attention." Knowing what to ignore is a huge part of critical thinking! (Via @katestarbird, @JenLucPiquant) https://twitter.com/samwineburg/status/1360980030227054594
In other words, people might think they're doing "critical thinking" when they pay "deep attention" to something, but I would suggest the two activities are sufficiently different as to be essentially orthogonal.
But I agree that "what to pay attention to" is a huge, underappreciated part of thinking well, whatever we may call it. Hard to draw up a recipe for doing it well.
