I can't stop theorising about the lost city of mizu so here's a few thoughts I have:

meaning that whoever wrote them either only wanted a specific story to be told, or they forgot what actually happened. both dream and ghostbur fit this description well, but so does Karl. he wants to preserve a specific timeline, but he's slowly forgetting things.

or maybe those books are the real timeline, the one from before Karl meddled with the past and future. the way certain characters are presented in the books also justifies this, especially characters such as George, Eret, Sapnap and Tubbo.
+
+
Sapnap is portrayed exactly as his fiance would see him, and George is described exactly how a close friend and colleague would describe him. We know that Karl disliked Eret, and this would fit with how he's shown in the books in George's room.

Tubbo is also important in this, because as we know from the Manburg vs Pogtopia war, Kalr wanted to protect Tubbo and trusted him more than his own allies. This also correlates with the books.

this means I have two theories:
- the books are about a different timeline, maybe the original before Karl changed it to protect Tommy.
- Karl forgot the real events but wanted to save the memories before it was too late, so he wrote just what HE wanted to preserve.
