Since Lucy posted this I've had tweets go viral and she is right: Going viral has no appreciable financial impact. People retweeting the post don't then buy the book. The don't care about your soundcloud. They aren't going to click that link to buy a ceiling projector... https://twitter.com/LuBellWoo/status/1360655865368334339
In my experience, two things happen when a tweet goes viral. 1) You get a bunch of new followers who then drop you when they see your normal content, and 2) You get some DMs sending you sob stories and asking for money. That's about it.
I've had friends and family call me saying "Congratulations! I saw your tweet quoted in XXX magazine and on XXX news program!" and things like that, and I have to tell them... there is nothing really to congratulate me on. There's no perks to going viral. No benefits.
That's on Twitter, by the way. Going viral on TikTok seems to be an entirely different beast.
