/ Australia, you need to get a grip. We keep hearing "N95s are too difficult. Fit testing not available. Not easy to throw up dedicated quarantine facilities overnight." This is all absolute nonsense. The will alone is lacking.
/ From 1942 to 1944 the Allies staged five major amphibious landings in the European theatre alone: Dieppe, North Africa, Sicily, Italy and then D-Day, the Normandy landings.
/ Each of these was an unprecedented logistical exercise involving hundreds of thousands of frontline and support personnel and enormous amounts of war materiel, aircraft, ships, trucks, tanks, all of which had to be in the right place at the right time and then deployed in a…
/ …coordinated fashion, all in a rapidly evolving, unpredictable battlescape. The South of England was turned into one large military camp almost overnight for D-Day. Tent and Nissen hut cities for millions sprang up. All these people had to be fed and coordinated.
/ In nine months, the Allies conceived, designed, built and deployed two massive concrete harbours - the Mulberry harbours, each the size of Dover harbour - which were towed across the English channel and sunk in position, along with breakwaters and causeways.
/ They compromised 400 component parts, weighing over 1.5 million tons, which started to be deployed on D-Day itself and the harbours were both fully functional by D-Day +11, discharging hundreds of thousands of men and millions of tons of supplies until the end of the war.
/ Australia is presently facing a national security threat from this virus of a scale unprecedented since the second world war.
/ It is time to now end this poverty of belief that we can carry out the minimal logistical challenges required to deal with it, take a lesson from history and actually ACT. The following must take place immediately:
/ A) Implement full airborne "end to end" infection control in quarantine. It can be done. Korea does it. Other countries do it. Copy them.
B) Implement "air-gapped" style accommodation for hotel quarantine. Use holiday parks, caravan parks close to major centres.

/ Build new facilities, yes, at Avalon and Toowoomba airports and elsewhere, but we can move in the next week to temporary existing facilities of this kind. Australia is full of them.
C) Upgrade infection control guidelines to combat this threat. ICEG is not up to the job.

/ ICEG must be disbanded. https://twitter.com/YouAreLobbyLud/status/1361431838875475971
/ D) Immediate ventilation audits and improvements in hospitals and other public buildings to accompany upgrading of infection control procedures and practices to take account of the reality of airborne spread, along the lines which I outlined in August last…
/ Get a grip Australia. Stop wringing your hands and whining that the tiniest of logistical exercises is too much for you. Our future, our fate rests on this.
/ Federal and state governments need to stop squabbling and act together NOW to deliver the very minimal amount of infrastructure and procedural improvements needed to keep us all safe. It isn't hard.
