Coming to you with another rant about WA's housing & homelessness crisis, an issue that I will keep banging on about until the McGowan Government actually does something meaningful to address it.

McGowan Gov seems determined *not* to address homelessness. Here's dozens of vulnerable West Australians - pregnant women, ppl in wheelchairs, young families - who the McGowan Gov is throwing out onto the street re a silly spat over who booked hotel rooms. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-16/perth-hotel-owner-says-wa-govt-has-refused-to-fund-homeless/13159086
This is a ludicrous decision that will be detrimental to these peopleâs ability to get back on their feet.
Frankly, at this point the McGowan Government is knowingly endangering the lives of those vulnerable people by chucking them out onto the street.

Housing Minister went on record on Jan 25 on @6PR that State Gov would provide hotel accommodation for âas long as it needs toâ until permanent housing could be found.
Now the Premier says State Gov wonât pay to keep these people housed. The Minister must honour his commitment.

This hotel situation comes amidst allegations that McGowan Gov lied re an election promise to build a 100-bed facility for rough sleepers at the 300 Wellington St YHA hostel.
Building owner has denied any arrangement w/ State Gov & is selling the hostel to a private developer.

The McGowan Government can commit $14.3 mill to their bogus election commitment at 300 Wellington St but they refuse to pay $20k to house dozens of vulnerable people who are in urgent need of a safe place to sleep right now at 875 Wellington St.
Seriously?

The Premier wants to talk about exploiting vulnerable people for political gain?
Well if the McGowan Govâs bogus election commitment for a non-existent homelessness facility at 300 Wellington isnât electioneering at the expense of vulnerable people then idk what is. #wapol

Refusing to pay the bill at the Perth City Apartments is merely a distraction from the real issue at hand: why is panic buying hotel rooms the best housing strategy the McGowan Government has for addressing homelessness?

A short-term hotel room is certainly better than having to give birth on the corner of the street. But the need for hotels to house people demonstrates the absolutely desperate situation WA is in re: extreme lack of crisis accommodation & social housing.
