The drastic firesale and vastly different styles of managers has really put the squad in a right state and I think there is a huge underestermation of the task to sort it. I don't know why people can easily forget the poor management from Ed Woodward in who he gives control to.
We have a GK on a crazy contract but one that facilitates a change of guard at what would be the expected end of the prime of a reflex GK. Issue is he has shown signs of that decline now which limit the positives that outweighed his style which is seen as a negative in the Prem.
We have a CB(Maguire) who suits control with a CB who suits back foot(Lindelof) both too slow together to bridge the gaps that their style does contribute too. One was signed under Mourinho(back foot) other under Ole. Other options are injury prone/worse style fits.
LB we have an elite multi phase contributor in Shaw and an adequate back-up be it a different profile in Telles.
RB we have an elite 1v1 player who can develop his deficiency but we have to adjust to it right now. Williams is the back-up but needs to develop with game time.

Pivot we have no natural deep player in a 6 we shoehorn 8s. We have Box to Box with Fred/McTominay. Fred is the constant pressure/good progression but gives up space and McTominay is a big game player, job is to disrupt. Has been huge improvements from him to add to his game.
Build-up this season on the more regulars has depended on Maguire/Lindelof/Fred, good enough progressing. McTominay has the slower dribbling but passing is not his game and as the 8 in the system he doesn't have anywhere near enough creativity vs games that give us the ball.
Matic is the sole single pivot DM but his legs/levels have dropped so much that the team has to adapt a lot of the structure to protect him and allow him to contribute. Pogba is the 8 with the creativity but so many times he has to be the deepest when used with Fred/McTominay.
At 10 we have the Portuguese magnifico who needs the ball inbetween the lines centrally to be at his best. With Pogba this happens quite often, anyone else and it is more coming deep to aid progression or drifting wide to get on the ball. DvB is a raumdeutor, a role not position.
Wherever DvB plays that is what you get. He needs to be found in and around the box where he will look to cut-back, shoot or link with flicks.
LW we have Rashford who is a threat on the break/dribbler but has limitations that he has shown improvements in some.

James is largly a counter threat in back up.
We have no RW but have used Greenwood who needs to develop his game to contribute more like he has shown.
Mata changes structure a lot and has no legs regardless of the creativity/control he can bring.

ST - was longer term very Haaland availability dependant it seems.
Issues are know and we have targets in mind to sort them. That is the direction shown so there is no need to lose your mind after every poor result.

We need a CB with pace to recover and suit a partnership.

Our targets have had these qualities that can bring balance and lift others we have got and allow them to show their ability more clearly.

Players can be poor for many reasons and it is not always tied to abillity, the players can be separated from a teams results, more factors than just the player themselves should be considered.
