"I'm waiting until it's finished" isn't as fun for the WIP fic author as you think it is, a thread.
I get it. I've been let down by authors too. But if an author is consistent at finishing, it's worth reading their chaptered fic for a) motivation b) support and c) feedback.

If you like 1-shots, ok, keep it up. But lots of long fics are in-progress works, so if you like them and wait until the end, it's like waiting for a show until season is over.
Yes, might be more fun for you, but usually results in the series getting cancelled cuz ratings suck.

The authors thrive on motivation and support from comments and kudos. And radio silence= move on to something else people like more.
I mean, you do you. But since I started writing and realized how much comments and kudos matter to people writing for free in their spare time...

I've started a) leaving kudos if I like something and b) leaving a comment if I really like something. Because I'll tell you, it makes my fucking day to hear someone likes what I wrote. So of course I want to do the same for the fic I'm enjoying!
And when I say feedback- I have changed my fic based on what I hear readers like. I'm not saying I'll change it every chapter to be exactly what the commenter wants, but once a reader said "I'd love to see XZ's POV" and I was like, "That's a good idea," and that was next part.
Or "I can't wait to learn more of Slytherin WYB's background" and I'm like, "Hey, me too, let's explore that earlier than I'd planned because I wasn't thinking about it much."
But, you know, skip the "WRITE MORE NOW!" and such demands please.
Remember, this is free, spare time.

Obviously, you do you. Just my experience. If you subscribe to the author and they've been pretty prolific, maybe read them during the progress instead of waiting until it ends. It really does help us. And you'll get the fic faster. And you might have more input than you think!
This brought to you by watching lovely authors I know (v. talented + popular) be very insecure about their fic because of the slow start with 1st chap. And seeing a reader say "waiting till it's done."
I know it's fun to binge but it really helps an author you want to support!
