CW: racism & racial harassment
‘On behalf of the University, I apologise to those students & staff who have experienced racial harassment on campus’ @UofGVC

Today, we publish a major new report ‘Understanding Racism: Transforming University Culture’ https://bit.ly/2LVLong  1/9
This report was prompted by work conducted by the @EHRC into racial harassment across UK Higher Education. This report was unequivocal – UK universities must do more to root out racism & make campuses a welcoming place for all.

As Chair of the UofG internal Equality and Diversity Committee, UofG Principal @UofGVC, commissioned an internal review to understand if the @EHRC report was reflective of the experiences of our community at UofG.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this review. It is a very difficult and challenging read. But it’s crucial that we actively deliver a place of learning that is committed to racial equality for all. We must, and we will, do better.

4/9
Alongside this report, we have developed a comprehensive action plan. This plan includes a range of activities across UofG, including dedicated objectives for each member of our Senior Management Group.

The action plan is also underpinned by four principles, and most importantly that we take a zero-tolerance approach to any form of racial harassment on our campuses.

The report offers us the chance to make real and meaningful change. It was produced with members of our UofG community and we welcome any comments and suggestions to help us towards true equality and diversity.

Change is not going to happen overnight, but we are committed to transforming our culture to be the university we aspire to be and ensure we are welcoming and inclusive for all.

Finally, and importantly, if you have been affected by any of these issues, please reach out. As part of our action plan, we have created resources to help support you. Read these here: https://bit.ly/2Zm0llR
