Food manufacturers are particularly hard hit in Toronto: 6 of 16 active outbreaks are in this industry, the single largest group.

It's a sector where paid sick days are rare, experts say
At meat packers, employers have strongly contested agreeing to paid sick days - even when workforces are unionized. That's because workers calling in sick jeopardizes line speed, a health and safety expert studying the Cargill High River outbreak tells me
Maple Leaf Foods' Junction-area plant also doesn't have paid sick days. Three of 25 cases there are linked to temp agency workers.

The company says temps don't actually work on the shop floor - they were brought in to be social distancing ambassadors
TPH's new workplace data is the first glimpse at the role of temp agencies in workplace outbreaks - an area we desperately need more info on says @iPreetBrar:

"Often temp workers feel that neither employer nor temp agency assumes full responsibility for their work"
Dimpflmeier Bakery with 53 cases, also doesn't appear to provide paid sick days based on their collective agreement.

Conversely, DECIEM w/ 18 current cases, offers paid sick days to all workers incl. temp agency. (Over the past year, 155 workers total have tested positive here)
