In this video we see Charlie Wyke's 4 goals, all headers, against Doncaster. What I find interesting is his movement. He doesn't do anything particular to lose his man, he just gets himself into positions he knows McGeady will put it. Then backs himself to win it.
So that is my take on Sunderland. Another juggernaut at this level. Lee Johnson is doing an excellent job with them since he took over in December. And in Charlie Wyke and Aiden McGeady they have 2 players operating at the peak of their powers at the minute.
I imagine we would have to look to double up in that position to stop his supply. Sunderland are a relentless pressing machine under Lee Johnson too. Ranking higher over the last 6 games than some of the well known pressing sides in Europe such as Bayern and Leeds.
As always though there are weaknesses. Sunderland don't give too many opportunities away but there are ways to exploit them in wide positions. They are to allow teams that as they back their ability to defend the crosses but if we use the League One game with MK Dons as..
.. a template we will see that they are susceptible to a cuter build up when wide, and chances will come form that. To summarise it's another very tough game but they have a similar profile to Hull in how they go about their business so we can take encouragement there.
