Woods is playing a character who's basically a sore loser and a man unable to look unto himself truly, hence if he loses he blames it on the game and if he wins he takes the glory. By doing that, he removes all the risk from playing in terms of his own image, or so he thinks.
Then when he plays, he ends up on black ice, which results in him crashing and failing. During his fall, he notices a raindrop, which is a point of stability within the chaos.
