Ok so here are my thoughts on #bnha302 and some of the takes I see coming out of it.
The first thing I wanted to talk about is how people are saying that Hori is kind of retconning Enji's character and how different this version is compared to Shoto's version:
The first thing I wanted to talk about is how people are saying that Hori is kind of retconning Enji's character and how different this version is compared to Shoto's version:
we have to remember that these last two chapters are from Enji and Rei's POV. One of the big things they taught us in my identifying child abuse courses is to not judge the parents or the family situation harshly because abusive parents do not wake up and decide
"today I'm going to be a terrible parent" and they certainly don't see themselves as the monsters that their children, and some other people, see them as. A lot of times neglectful or abusive parents don't even /realize/ that they are doing harm to their child. That's why it's
Sometimes so hard for CPS to get families to work with them, because the parents just don't see what the authorities see. Enji and Rei obviously realize that they did make mistakes but even still they probably don't fully understand the extent of their own neglect
And therefore their retelling of the events is just as unreliable as Shoto's side. The truth of what it was really like in the todoroki house is likely somewhere in between what we saw in the last two chapters and what we saw in Shoto's flashback.
Next I want to talk about people calling Touya a "bad seed" and saying he was evil from the start for trying to attack Shoto. First of all, especially in firstborns, resentment of a younger sibling is EXTREMELY COMMON. Of course Touya's was a special case, because
he was presenting early signs of mental illness, but still- resenting and not liking younger siblings, and even sometimes doing things that may hurt them, is something that some kids do. Children do not fully understand the consequences of hurting another person, and
Are extremely influenced by their current emotions; Hell my big sister PUNCHED ME IN THE FACE right after I was born- does that mean she's evil? Of course not- it meant she was overwhelmed by her emotions at that moment and did not know any other way to express herself.
This would only be exacerbated in Touya because the whole reason his younger siblings were born were too /replace him/. They were born so that they could fulfill their father's dream when Touya failed to do so-a dream that up until that point had been a major portion
Of his self identity. And a child's self-identity is a /very/ important part of their development, that's why it's emphasized in early childhood education
That you should give children as many opportunities as possible to express themselves and build that self-identity. It's why art is such an important part of early school environments. And having that taken away from you at such a young age is extremely detrimental to a child's
emotional development and can cause long lasting damage, both to their future self image as well as their interpersonal relationships, that will follow them throughout life.
Okay I'm rambling at this point time to move on to point three
Okay I'm rambling at this point time to move on to point three

Point three: the misogyny thing. If you spend any amount of time with a group of mixed sex children you will see that this is also very common. Children are very egocentric and will try and find ways to invalidate any dissenting opinion to their own- and the easiest way
To do this is to say that the other simply doesn't understand. When you have boys and girls that are just starting to really notice the differences between the sexes and trying to make sense of their own identity, and a member of the opposite sex shows a differing opinion
It is extremely easy for the kid to go "well you just don't get it because you're a *insert opposite sex here*" like Touya does to Fuyumi in 301. I also think his comment in the most recent chapter is taken out of context. Fuyumi and Rei we're never even considered
By Enji to be "prodigy". Rei obviously because she's his wife, and Fuyumi because at the time she was born, and probably got her quirk, Touya was still his focus. But Natsuo and Shoto we're both conceived with the express purpose of hopefully having the perfect quirk
That Enji was looking for. That's why Touya says that only Natsuo can understand, because he, like Touya, is considered a /failed experiment./. Of course he's not going to phrase it like that, being so young, and may not completely understand why
Thats the reason he feels more connected to Natsuo then the others. but what he /can/ see is that the other two are girls and he and natsuo are boys; ergo: "all the girls in our family are worthless" because Touya is putting all of /his/ worth in being a valuable sucessor to Enji
Something which the two girls were never even considered to be a candidate for.

I don't know if I articulated myself very well, or if this is even comprehensible, but that's basically my two cents on the matter
