My daughter has Down syndrome + Autism. Kristi Noem was her Polar Plunge partner in 2017, before running for Governor of South Dakota. When Noem started sharing pictures of my daughter and herself, I let her know that I did not authorize her to use them in her campaign.
My daughter is now 21. She has been unable to attend her transition program or receive her supported employment since March of 2020 because of COVID. I have emailed, called, and tweeted numerous times asking for Noem to help get my daughter another year of transitional services.
To date, she has not responded. I have also tried, to no avail, to get her to follow the CDC guidelines and help my daughter get vaccinated against COVID - SD is not following the CDC protocols which put people with Down syndrome in the same group as those with cancer or on
dialysis. My daughter needs another year of supported employment to become independently employable. She wants to be a productive citizen and work, not completely rely on government funds all her life. She has goals that are fading away.
Yet, Noem thinks it is more important to only do what she feels will help her in her political future. Importing babies and adult speakers with Down syndrome from other states to use them for photo ops to make it look like she cares.
She has proven to me and my daughter, that she in fact does not care at all about those with disabilities. I warned people about voting for her back in 2017 after I met her. Noem needs to be defeated in 2022. Her political career needs to end! She is a narcissist.
I am done with trying to be "nice" or holding back. Everyone in SD and elsewhere (since we know Noem has her eye on the White House) needs to know that this woman is a fake, a fraud...just like her mentor - you know that former guy. @argusleader @maddow @JoyAnnReid @chrislhayes
